NOTICE: There is an online blackout going on today on many internet sights. The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) or House Bill 3261, if made law, would expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods. Opponents say that it violates the First Amendment, is Internet censorship, will cripple the Internet, and will threaten whistle blowing and other free speech actions.
Women In The Media
Below is a trailer for the film “Miss representation” about women in the media. It is excellent even as a trailer, please take a few minutes to watch it. It is fascinating! How do we learn to be women? How can we move beyond the portrayal of women in the media? Women are so much more than this. Think about all of the women in your life. Your mother. Your sister. Grandmother. Friends. Think about yourself. We all have dreams that are so much bigger than the shallow sex objects the media portrays us as.
These image in the media lead to violence against women and to our extinction.
This trailer is from the film: “Miss representation” by Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
